Luc’s body kicked off the ground and flew in the air.

The rats rushed in and tried to bite Luc.

“Blackie, protect Luc!”

“On it, Master!”

The rats that surged in the air were frozen.

Crossing over like using a stepping stone, he jumped on the rats and travelled on the air.

Like a fast and powerful lighting bulb, Luc struck at Xaril.

“Even if you do that, your sword won’t reach me!”

I saw Xaril using black magic in an attempt to escape.

“Who’s letting you escape? Blackie! Flash freeze!”

Blackie froze Xaril completely.

The moment Blackie’s defence was gone, a swarm of rats rushed at me.

I swung the dagger in my hand and stabbed a rat that rushed towards me.

“I’ve caught a lot of rats and cockroaches in the past!”

Xaril quickly broke from the ice and tried to escape, but it didn’t matter.

Because he only had to hold out for a second.

Just before Luc’s sword would be able to reach him.

Luc plunged on top of Xaril.

When the tip of the sword charged towards him, Xaril chose to attack rather than dodge.

“How dare you……!”

Xaril gathered black magic on his hand and swung it.

Luc wouldn’t survive if he got hit by that.

But I made it clear to Blackie.

Protect Luc.

Luc did not dodge Xaril’s attack.

Rather, he let it lunge towards his chest while charging his sword.

As Xaril’s sword touched Luc’s body, a cracking sound was heard and I felt my strength drain from my body.

It meant that Blackie had used the protective shield.

When his own attack didn’t work, Xaril looked at Luc with a bewildered expression.

“You……!”

Before Xaril could finish his sentence, Luc’s sword slashed Xaril’s head.

“Aaaagh!”

The shadows shook wildly with a terrifying scream.

And it went quiet in an instant.

The rats around me immediately turned into smoke and disappeared.

I took a deep breath to catch my breath, and Luc rushed towards me to check my condition.

“Sister! Are you okay?”

“Yes……What about you, Luc? Are you hurt?”

“I’m fine since sister protected me. I’m glad you came with me sister. I wouldn’t have been able to catch him if I was alone. But……”

Luc made an upset look as he grazed my cheek and forehead, where the rats’ claws had scratched them.

I spoke, holding Luc’s hand.

“Anyway, we’re both safe. That’s all that matters.”

“……Sister.”

Luc hugged me tightly.

“Blackie, what about the children in the cage?”

“They’re very weak, but it’s not to the point of losing their life. They should be better once they eat and rest well.”

“That’s a relief. Now, let’s find a place to put the letter that Marquis had summoned the monster.”

I felt so sleepy that I was about to faint, but I had to do my task first.

When I got up and walked inside the cave, I saw a laboratory with strange instruments.

“Looks like he was experimenting on something here.”

Blackie looked around the lab and said.

I didn’t want to see the bloodstains splattered around, so I turned my eyes away, and Luc held my hand.

The warmth calmed me down a little.

“Let’s see if there’s anything we can use.”

Then, I saw a small box lying on the desk.

With black magic wrapping around it, it seemed to be something important just from a glance.

When I tried to touch it, Blackie stopped me.

“Unless you’re a monster, you could lose your life if you carelessly touch black magic.”

“What should we do, then?”

“Let’s look for something else first and ask the high priest to purify it later.”

Instead of the box, I asked Blackie while looking at the books and research materials piled up on the bookshelf.

“It looked as if he was trying to resurrect the dead……Is it possible for the dead to come back to life?”

“Perhaps.”

“Really?”

“Black magic is a force that defies reason. Whether it is bringing the dead to life or going back to the past. Things that are impossible in real life.”

“Then……”

Then, was it possible to enter a novel?

I was about to ask, but I stopped my words.

I was out of breath from swinging the dagger just now.

I wasn’t sure if this situation was fictional anymore.

Then, Luc called me.

“Sister.”

“Yes?”

“The box is open.”

“Really? Let me see!”

But I suddenly felt something odd and turned to Luc again.

“But how did you open the box, Luc?”

“I didn’t open it.”

“Then?”

Luc smiled slightly.

“It just opened. Maybe because the monster died, their magic also disappeared?”

“Really?”

That’s possible.

I nodded and looked inside the box.

Inside the box was a thick bundle of documents and a communication device.

After reading the documents carefully, I smiled brightly.

“I don’t think we need to fabricate the evidence that Xaril was associated with Marquis Reholas after all.”

After we returned the lab to its original state, we went outside.

Turns out, it was a cave that was connected to the Viscount’s basement.

As I left the cave while being supported by Luc, the knights sent by the two Dukes saw us and rushed here.

“Duke!’

“Where have you been, Duke!”

“We were kidnapped by the monster.”

“M-Monster? But how……”

The knight sent by the Summerhield Duchy examined Luc up and down in bewilderment.

“I got rid of it. The monster’s hideout was under the basement. The kidnapped children are there, so go and take a look.”

“You mean the Duke really killed the monster?”

The knight from the Iswed Duchy looked at Luc suspiciously.

“What else? Didn’t you send me here to kill the monster in the first place?”

“I will have to check it out for myself. Let’s go together.”

“No, I have to go get my wife treated quickly, she’s not feeling well. She followed all the way here for me, but I got caught up in something useless……”

Luc looked at me in distress.

Leaning against Luc, I gasped as if I was about to faint at any moment.

As though my small and fragile figure aroused the knight’s sympathy, Duke Iswed’s knight nodded.

“Alright. The two of us will go down.”

I watched the two of them head down to the basement.

If they head straight down, they will find the evidence that Marquis Reholas was associated with that monster, Xaril.

‘Since there was real evidence, there’s no need for ours. It’s better to avoid being suspected of fabricating the evidence after we found one.’

It wasn’t long before I heard the voices of the knights shouting.

“Here, the children are here!”

“Quick, get the doctor! Hurry! The priest too!”

Lucius looked at Felia’s face, sleeping from exhaustion.

When she closed her eyes, she really looked lovely like a doll.

Under the blanket, he could see her fragile shoulders and slender wrists.

“So frail……”

Like a porcelain doll, it seemed like it would crumble with just a little force.

And yet, she always tried her best to protect him.

Lucius looked down at his small hands.

After talking with the beast, he felt black magic surging within his body.

‘That’s how I was able to open the box.’

It was a black magic that would make a normal person lose their mind, but the black magic no longer did any harm to Lucius.

He felt like he knew how to use the black magic surging in his body and what he could do even without learning about it.

‘It seems like I’ve really become a monster.’

Lucius laughed inwardly.

Well, since he was a monster in the past, it would be correct to call him a monster, not a human.

‘Now that I think about it, mother must have been right.’

She was a woman with good instinct.

When she saw the son she gave birth to, she said that it was not a human being.

Since it was a monster that could imitate humans, it was only natural for humans to avoid it.

Lucius squeezed and spreaded his hand.

A violent and powerful force that exists to crush and destroy something.

If he uses this power, he would be able to become stronger easily and faster beyond comparison with now.

‘But I might lose sister.’

If he was discovered that he was a monster, he was certain that the knights from the imperial family and other parties would come to kill him.

‘Since sister said she wouldn’t abandon me, she won’t leave. She’ll try to protect me instead.’

But it would definitely become a tough road.

He didn’t want that.

His wife was a strong and beautiful person that is meant to shine bright.

‘I want sister to always smile and be happy.’

That was the only wish Lucius wanted for Felia.

Lucius’ hand carefully swept the hair on Felia’s forehead.

He quietly lowered his lips on the smooth, white forehead.

Sacred and noble, like a prayer to God.

The young Lucius did not yet know how to express this feeling.

On the way back to the capital, the people welcomed us by scattering flowers.

As Luc riding on the black horse passed by, people cheered.

“Duke Valfruga! Guardian of the empire!”

“Duke Valfruga! Duke Valfruga, who defeated the monster!”

I said, quietly looking out the window from the carriage.

“It’s not even a big deal.”

The knight from Duke Summerhield responded passionately.

“Of course it is! Do you know how wild it is right now! Children’s books containing tales of Duke Valfruga are being sold all over the street, even the Duke’s portraits are being sold!”

It was worthwhile sending a few people out earlier to drive public opinions.

But I asked back, pretending not to know.

“Really?”

“It’s only natural since you saved 99 children who were kidnapped by the monster! Besides, I heard that it was a monster that hides among people? That’s such a difficult monster to kill, yet it was done in less than a week, so people are going wild!”

Listening to the knight’s passionate words, it seemed that my actions were left unknown.

It was a relief for me.

I wasn’t sure about Luc, but I find it annoying if my face was sold as the Duchess for no reason, and I wanted to hide my divine beast as much as I could in the future.

I said while stroking Blackie beside me.

“At this point, it’s hard to say that he doesn’t deserve the title of the duke.”

“Absolutely! And that’s not all. Certainly, the only person who can protect the empire is Duke Valfruga, so there’s been a lot of uproar these days! Besides, how is the Duke’s beauty considered average?”

Of course, our Luc is the most beautiful and handsome person in the world.

A Duke who defeats monsters is great, but it is even better if the Duke is handsome.

Amidst the hospitality of the people, we entered the imperial palace.

When we headed to the hall where our first Grand Five meeting was held, the same faces awaited us.

The only difference was that Marquis Reholas, who had previously stood next to the Emperor, was now on his knees and being subdued?
