Purging

Ellie received a hand signal from Letty and quickly responded before positioning herself in front of the guild’s door.

She had been briefed that the area just beyond the door resembled a grand hall. The distant sounds of boisterous men drinking and causing a commotion were still audible. Letty’s detection magic had already confirmed the presence of a sizable crowd.

Standing resolute before the door, Ellie concentrated mana in both hands, with a slightly greater charge in her left. Her gaze fixated on the door hinge, preparing to strike.

With a soft noise, two gleaming bullets shot forward, piercing through the hinge. Then, with a resounding crash, she forcefully kicked the door open, entering in one swift motion.

“Good evening!” she greeted them loudly.

“Huh?” The men froze for a moment, their eyes darting around as Ellie quickly scanned them and locked onto her targets.

“Fire!” she commanded, unleashing the accumulated magic power from her left hand.

One after another, the men, totaling over ten, collapsed to the ground as the shining bullets found their marks in their chests and heads.

“What… Who the hell are you?!” one of the surviving men finally found his voice, mustering the courage to speak.

Ignoring his question, Ellie surveyed the room once more, ensuring no one survived, and prepared for further action. “No response from the motion sensors. Room secured.”

Ellie’s demeanor shifted entirely from her interaction with Letty. It became mechanical and detached as she calmly assessed the situation.

Once again, she gathered mana in both hands, this time with enough power to take down a dozen men with each hand. The estimated number of enemies based on the footsteps might have called for excessive force, but Ellie paid it no mind.

“Master entrusted this task to me. Not a single one will escape.” Her usual expression briefly returned, revealing her unwavering determination.

This operation involved Letty infiltrating the guild master’s room on the fourth floor to eliminate Hans. Upon a signal, Ellie would storm in, taking control from the first floor up to the upper levels. Meanwhile, Letty would descend from above to cut down any fleeing men.

The objective was complete annihilation through a meticulously coordinated attack. They had no intention of letting anyone slip away.

Enhancing the sensitivity of her sensors, Ellie made her way towards the staircase, prepared to intercept any approaching threats. Among the men lying on the ground, she noticed one individual who seemed more elegantly dressed than the rest.

“That must be Gold. I’ll confirm it later.” Letty resumed her advance towards the staircase, devoid of emotional attachment.

Later investigations confirmed that Gold, who had been reveling with his lackeys, was caught off guard and lost his life without even a chance to resist.

Having left from the guild master’s room, Letty swiftly dealt with the men on the fourth floor, bringing it under control. Since most of them were likely occupied with the feast downstairs, their numbers were scarce. The remaining individuals were mostly heavily intoxicated, making it easy for Letty to dispose of them without much resistance.

“Didn’t expect them to put up a fight…” Letty sighed in frustration.

Being defeated by such men and the realization that she could easily be replaced didn’t sit well with her. Moreover, she couldn’t help but feel exasperated by their incompetence.

We were naive, both Greg and I…

Hans’ betrayal had caught them off guard, and they failed to sense or prevent it. It was a clear lapse in vigilance resulting from their leniency towards their own people.

Or perhaps, Letty considered, it was her own indifference to the allure of power and wealth possessed by the guild. Even after extracting the 500 coins the other day, they should have easily accumulated around 1,000 mithril silver coins.

Furthermore, their skills in assassination and access to valuable customer information provided various opportunities for utilization. Perhaps, due to building everything from scratch, they had failed to fully grasp or appreciate the value of these assets.

…Hmm? Wasn’t Hans similar in that regard…? A sudden question interrupted Letty’s train of thought.

Just then, a sound echoed from downstairs, causing Letty to pause.

“Ellie, you’re fired up… I need to get to work too.” Letty muttered, resolute in her next move, and descended to the third floor.

With Ellie’s precise shooting and Letty’s close combat skills, they swiftly gained control. Despite a total of around forty men present, the surprise attack had caught them completely off guard, rendering them unable to mount a significant resistance.

“Ellie, well done.”

“And well done to you too, Letty-san.”

Even after taking down more than twenty people, Ellie appeared with a cheerful smile, not even out of breath. Letty was equally composed, showing no signs of exhaustion.

“Let’s… check the basement.” Letty declared, leading the way down the stairs.

The basement consisted of a warehouse and cells, and it was typically devoid of people. It seemed that the men disliked the dampness of the place, as they were all gathered on the ground floor.

However…

“Rita?”

“Huh? Oh, G-Ghost? Why are you… Did you come to rescue me?”

“Not exactly… It was more of a coincidence. I didn’t know you were captured.”

Locked inside one of the cells was a young woman, appearing to be in her early twenties. She had neatly trimmed brown hair, friendly eyes, and an alluring face. Her tattered clothes barely covered her voluptuous and soft-looking body.

“I suppose… I can say I’m glad you’re alive.”

“You should be! Don’t worry about it. I’m fine with this. You know that, right?”

The circumstances surrounding her presence in such a place and her attire didn’t require much imagination to comprehend.

Letty furrowed her brow with concern, and Rita responded with a smile.

Indeed, Rita couldn’t hide her fatigue and weariness. She, too, was an assassin, utilizing her beauty and body to seduce men and carry out assignments under the cover of night. While she had extensive experience in physical intimacy, her current predicament was undoubtedly different.

Letty’s gaze reflected her concern, and Rita accepted it with a smile.

“For now… I’ll get you out.” Letty said, kneeling in front of the cell door. With skillful precision, she used a wire from her pouch to quickly pick the lock.

“Thank you so mu—” As Rita expressed her gratitude, she stood up and swayed.

Letty swiftly approached and supported her. “I told you… not to push yourself too hard.”

“Hahaha, sorry… Sorry… I’m feeling a bit weak in the knees…” Her murmured words revealed her exhaustion from exertion.

As the two of them emerged from the cell, Ellie spoke up, “Um, Letty-san, who is this person?”

Was it just my imagination, or did Ellie’s voice sound a bit tense?

In response to Ellie’s voice, Rita, who noticed her presence, raised her head, “Ghost, who’s this young lady? Why is she here?”

“Ah, um… Let me explain…”

And so, they exchanged information once again. Rita was greatly surprised by Ellie’s existence, but even more so…

“That kind of thing happened…?”

“I didn’t witness it firsthand, but I’m pretty sure it’s true.”

They had discovered the missing piece of the puzzle, alleviating their sense of unease.
